Measures supported in our survey work included faster and more predictable approval timelines, building more housing in existing communities, delegating routine approvals where appropriate, modern digital permitting, pre-zoning, reducing unnecessary studies, standardized requirements and supporting professional staff recommendations where appropriate.
How should property taxes be approached?
The consistent position developed was fiscal prudence rather than a rigid tax pledge: review spending and programs, find efficiencies and partnerships, plan for long-term asset needs and justify increases based on demonstrated need and value. The 2022 'no tax increases' position was not carried forward into the 2026 platform.
Which economic-development actions should be priorities?
The campaign's strongest recurring priorities were downtown revitalization, investment in roads and infrastructure, reducing unnecessary red tape and supporting a more diverse economy including advanced manufacturing, technology, professional services and entrepreneurship. The survey discussion considered the available support options in the context of the airport's potential role in tourism, business investment, aviation services and regional connectivity, while emphasizing the need for a credible business case, partnerships and measurable economic value.
If elected, what is the single most important action you will pursue in your first term to support Niagara's economic and social prosperity?
The answer was developed around strengthening the conditions for sustainable economic growth: improving the infrastructure and municipal processes that support investment, housing and job creation, while keeping the commitment realistic for an individual councillor—building Council support, working through the budget and policy process, and collaborating with staff, the Region and economic-development partners.
